Approvals stall. A report needs manual corrections before anyone trusts it. These are useful signals that your ERP deserves attention, but they do not yet tell you what needs to change.

At CareFront, our starting point is the work itself: what people are trying to achieve, how the process actually runs and where the system makes that harder.

Choose one process and trace it properly

Start with something specific, such as an order moving through to invoicing or a purchase going through approval. Ask the people doing the work to show you each step, including anything that happens outside the system.

Record where information is entered twice, where decisions wait and where someone has to step in with personal knowledge. A workaround may be keeping the business running while pointing to a gap in the process underneath.

Separate the causes before choosing a fix

Several different problems can look like a system failure. The data may be incomplete. Access may be wrong for the role. A configuration choice may no longer match the business. A team may need training for an unfamiliar task.

Each calls for a different response. Capture a reproducible example, describe its business impact and assign someone to investigate. Avoid turning every frustration straight into a development request.

Make improvement a business responsibility

Technical specialists can explain what is possible, but process owners need to decide what good looks like. Agree a small set of outcomes: fewer manual handovers, a clearer approval route or a report that reconciles to an agreed source.

Prioritise changes by impact, effort and dependency. Test proposed fixes in an appropriate non-production environment, with the people who use the process. Include normal work and awkward exceptions, then agree how you will support the team when the change goes live.

Keep looking after the system

ERP improvement continues beyond launch. Microsoft’s Dynamics 365 implementation guide includes an Operate stage alongside planning, implementation and preparation. It is a useful reminder to make ongoing ownership part of the plan.

CareFront provides practical ERP and Microsoft Dynamics 365 support, process improvement and help with projects that have lost momentum. Find out how we can help your systems work better.

Before adding another workaround or replacing a system, look at how the work moves through it.
