An ERP programme can reach its launch date and still leave the business carrying a heavy burden. Finance teams maintain spreadsheets to get through month end. Support requests move between suppliers. Users learn which steps to avoid because nobody has resolved the underlying problem.
Those costs deserve attention. They may be recorded as overtime, support effort or ordinary administration rather than as part of the original programme, but they still affect the value the business receives.
Microsoft’s Dynamics 365 guidance calls for a readiness review before a solution goes live. That is a useful checkpoint. CareFront’s view is that the same practical attention needs to continue as people begin using the system in real working conditions. Read Microsoft’s preparation guidance.
Test the work people depend on
Test scenarios should follow business processes, including the awkward exceptions. Can the team complete a transaction when information is missing? Do approvals reach the right person? Can a corrected entry flow through connected systems and appear properly in reporting?
Include the people responsible for the work and give them time to test it. A demonstration by the project team is useful, but it does not replace evidence that users can complete their responsibilities with the access, data and guidance they will have in production.
Keep decisions visible. Record what is ready, what remains open, the business impact and who owns the next step. The decision to proceed should be informed by that picture rather than by the calendar alone.
Budget for the period after launch
People need support while new habits form. Agree how questions and defects will be triaged, how priorities will be set and which specialists will remain available. Plan around important operational events such as payment runs and month end.
It is also worth deciding what successful stabilisation looks like. It could include fewer recurring incidents, dependable reconciliations and users completing key processes without a workaround. The measures should be agreed with the business rather than chosen only because they are easy to report.
This is where the cost conversation becomes more useful. A low implementation price may be outweighed by months of avoidable support and rework. Compare the cost of reaching a stable operation, including the help needed after deployment.
Take ownership of the recovery
CareFront supports Dynamics 365 Finance and wider ERP operations through functional support, business analysis, release readiness, user testing and implementation recovery. We get close to the work so technical decisions remain connected to the people who depend on the system.
Where a programme has drifted, we help establish a realistic recovery plan and clear accountability. We stay involved in delivery, support the transition and help build knowledge inside the business.
The point of a rollout is a working operation that people trust. Talk to CareFront about getting your ERP programme there.
